This day was truly AMAZING in every sense of the word!!! I busted my ass promoting for this album and was still kind of nervous about what the outcome of the instore was gonna be, especially in a time when cd sales are at an all-time low. I had been to a few instores for dudes with pretty big names where only a handful of people showed up. However lol, the instore was PACKED!!! In fact, I was told that it was one of the most packed instores Fat Beats had in a MINUTE!!! That really meant a lot to me. From all the hard work I put into creating my music, promotion, etc. the day couldn't have been any better!!! Those who know me know that I'm extremely humble to the point where I actually felt awkward signing so many cds cuz I feel like I'm just a regular dude who loves rhyming and making beats lol. That's just me cuz all of this is just me doing what I love.

It's finally official!!! The new and FINAL release date for my new "Spit Therapy" album is March 30th!!! I've had a few setbacks that kept pushing this release back, but now I'm ready to put it out there. I can also say that I put my blood, sweat and tears into this album in an attempt to create a timeless classic regardless of what everyone else is doing on radio or whatever. The result is amazing!!! This album is full of sick, raw Boom Bap production, ill lyricism, scratching, etc. If you've been longing for some raw Hip Hop that's missing from the radio then this is definitely an album for you to check out. Mark your calendars and PLEASE help me spread the word about it because I'm trying my best to make a lotta noise with this. That's all I would ever ask from anyone.

I don't want to give too much info away about the album, but I had a few friends like Poison Pen, Homeboy Sandman and Oxygen show up and stroll into the vocal booth during this album's creation lol. More info on the album release party and new videos coming soon!

This past weekend I had the opportunity to perform with a few other MCs and represent the Hip Hop Cultural Center at the WORLD FAMOUS Apollo Theater in Harlem during a couple of show they had for celebrating their 75th anniversary. I had a lot of fun and it was great to be able to rock on such an historic stage. So many greats have hit that stage and it's dope that I can now say that I've rocked on that stage! It still hasn't set in with me that Michael Jackson has passed away. I, like many people around the world, was crushed by the news. It hit me hard as if he was a relative of mine or a close friend. To say that he was such a brilliant performer/individual is a huge understatement. He touched so many lives (including mine) and he will definitely be missed. It's so sad that this happened to him at such a young age.

What actually upsets me is the fact that the media has messed with him constantly for soooo many years and even now that he has passed they STILL continue to shit on his name and focus on the allegations, his debt and anything negative they can come up with. The man entertained the world in the music business for 45 years and the media focuses on his allegations from 4 years ago???? It's ridiculous!!! When Kurt Cobain committed suicide did the media focus on his drug use or anything negative??? I'm not gonna get deep into that one, but I'm sure you know where I'm coming from with that.

On another note...on the night that he passed away, I was in the city chillin in front of a lounge where I was about to attend the listening party for Rebel Star...the suddenly THIS situation just formed outta nowhere.

It just goes to show that he REALLY touched so many people. WE LOVE YOU MICHAEL!!! YOUR MUSIC WILL LIVE ON THROUGH EVERYONE WHO WAS TOUCHED BY YOU AND YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED!!!

The Hip Hop Cultural Center in Harlem, New York is holding its 3rd Annual Rapathon event this year. This event will be a 26-hour ongoing cipher on the stage with many dope MCs and DJs. It will set a record in the Guiness book for being the longest rhyme cipher. The current record was also set by the Hip Hop Culture Center last year for 25 hours. This year history will be made again and Mr. Beatz will be part of it! All MCs involved with the event are on individual teams and Mr. Beatz's team will be performing on Saturday, May 30th starting at 10 PM. Spread the word, come through and experience some live, raw Hip Hop!

The other night I performed at the world famous Nuyorican Poet's Cafe in NYC for the "All That!" show hosted by Homeboy Sandman. I wanted to make sure it was gonna be a classic performance since the Nuyorican is definitely a legendary spot...so my show had to be as well. With that in mind, I decided to bring my MPC on stage for a little treat to give the crowd something different. It was also mad different for the simple fact that I happened to rock 2 of my joints along with a live band instead of the song's instrumentals so it was definitely a classic night.

KNOW YOUR LANDLORD!!!

This post happens to be more on the personal side. It deals with a very serious situation that I have been placed in. This is very important for everyone to think about when you move into a new place.

A few months ago I moved into a a new spot and was paying the rent like normal. The place I live in is a 3 family house so I am not the only one who lives there. Within a couple of months of living at this house the heat, hot water and gas were all cut off. I confronted the "landlord" only to find out that the person I had been paying rent to was NOT the owner of the house at all and claims to be a person who "runs" the house for the owner. This information was never given to me prior to this situation. You would think that the person renting the place to you, collects your money and gives you the keys to the place is indeed the landlord. It only tells us that this idiot who was collecting money for the rent completely stopped paying the bills on the house and just left us hanging. This person is a fuckin crook for all I know. Now with this in mind, it's pretty obvious that if these bills aren't being paid then Con Ed is going to be next on cutting services.

Right away, many would think of just reporting this situation to the city. However, someone else in the house made this attempt and had inspectors came to the house, which presented a new problem. I personally confronted the inspectors who arrived and asked them what would happen upon learning that the house doesn't have heat, hot water, etc. They told me that if they conclude that the house truly does not have these necessities, they would have to shut the house down in which everyone has to evacuate the premises IMMEDIATELY and then they would hit the owner with violations. So basically, this would result in everyone being thrown out in the street. I told the inspectors that I can't let that happen and luckily, I was able to work out a deal in which they would go back and simply say that we weren't home when they came to check the house.

NOW, it's basically a race against the clock for me and the others in the house to find another place before the lights go out. This is really a crazy ass situation and I had to share it with everyone so that everyone really considers finding out AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE about any landlord that you give your money to. I had to learn the hard way, but that's life I guess. I've had the craziest luck over the past couple of years so this shouldn't surprise me too much lol. Don't be surprised if you get a call from me soon asking to crash on your couch!!! LOLOL

Those "others" happened to be Vast Aire, AKIR, myself and Poison Pen along with the Invizzibl Men cats. Now I'm hatin' cuz Poison Pen got all the credit for beating that dude down! This topic is definitely a great one for debating. There are some MCs out there who have been known for their great story-telling abilities. I don't believe that every MC should be a great story-teller as many seem to mention when speaking on great MCs. However, there are some MCs whose story-telling abilities are just unbelievable.

One MC who is very talented with this is my all-time favorite MC, Kool G Rap. I have added a link at the bottom of this post for his song "A Thug's Love Story". This song in my opinion is the illest story ever told in rhyme. The story is broken up into 3 chapters and the level of detail and action throughout the story makes you quickly forget that it's actually a song! You suddenly feel as if you're sitting in a movie theater with a bucket of popcorn and a pack of snocaps on your lap lolol. Never in all my life have I heard an MC tell a story ANYTHING like this. This song is from his album, "Roots of Evil" that many people do not even know about. He specifically recorded this album to raise the bar and take his lyricism to another level. The bad part is that is was released on a small label, was badly promoted and soon became unavailable.

Although these debates are very interesting, I agree and disagree with these cats on different levels...especially the part about the Jay Z/Biggie debate, don't get me started on that one. I personally think Biggie would be nowhere near as successful as Jay for many reasons...one simply being that Jay Z started his own label and that alone brings you WAY more money than an artist who is signed to a label with the numbers Jay has been pulling. There are many more reasons (Ex. any artist fuckin with Diddy on Bad Boy is never developed into a huge success-usually Bad Boy artists' careers are over with in a short matter of time). Like I said, this one can go on and on, but I wanted to share these.

Get Some Headphones!

This is one of those rant posts of mine that you'll see from me now and then lol. I, like most people in here, deal with the mass transit system daily. Anyone who also deals with the train and/or bus can tell you that it can be a headache sometimes. You never know what to expect sometimes since you can find yourself dealing with overpacked trains, a stalled train, a delayed bus, etc. Regardless of all these types of headaches mentioned, one of the biggest headaches in my opinion is being stuck in a packed train or bus while some knucklehead is playing music from their cell phone mad loud. Playing music on your phone is cool, but these fools need to get headphones or something instead of trying to turn the train ride into a party that most people on the train wish they weren't invited to lol. Why do I have to be forced to listen to your mp3 of T-Pain mad loud while you bop your head and do the 2-step in front of me??? I don't know, but it's just me. What MTA situations drive you nuts??? LOL

The Nicest Freestyle MCs

This is one talk that I've had with a few cats that definitely gets a lot of different results. Those who know me know that freestyling is something that I love doing (especially on stage) and hearing from other MCs who are dope at it. A lot of people attempt it, but there is a very small few who are great at it. I always feel that possessing this type of skill gives any MC the power to rip any crowd. Also, I feel I need to mention this...when I say the word "FREESTYLE", I'm talking about rhyming off the head and spitting what's never been heard or written down that's on your mind at that given moment. I am NOT referring to so-called "freestyles" like the ones you see on mixtapes. No offense to those cats, but that is NOT freestyling and needs to be called something else in my opinion. Spitting an exclusive written verse over someone else's known beat does not make that a freestyle lol. Some of the BEST freestylers I've heard are (in no particular order):

I was never big on this blog thing, but I figured I'd start up a place for having Hip Hop debates, discussions and any other stuff that I just want to ramble on about and share with my peeps (or any other nosey muthafuckas that don't know me and want to read my shit lol).

I've been known to have mad different debates and discussions on what's going on in the music world or society and figured it would be best to set up a place online for this instead of just going back and forth on the messenger or with a bunch of emails.
